Madame Bovary is a small café at Glebe Point Road, NSW, and is located in a heritage building with beautiful, large windows and exterior ornaments. The design is a renovation project of a 150 sqm large space, divided into two storeys where heritage elements must be preserved and utilised within the renovation.
The concept of the renewal project is to update the interior spaces to attract more customers while maintaining a connection to the site, building and brand. Originally, the spatial design was trying to achieve a cinematic atmosphere with bold coloured posters and a retro diner character, but didn’t succeed. To accomplish the wishes of the client – a mysterious, moody and comfortable concept was created. The new floorplan is rearranged
rearranged to allow for better airflow and circulation. The kitchen and bar area are pushed towards the entrance to allow for an open kitchen experience.
The material and furniture collection are carefully selected to achieve a vintage atmosphere with a contemporary twist and sophisticated finish. Timeless designer pieces, such as the Finn Juhl Pelican Chair and Table, are complimented with contemporary kitchen appliances and customised joinery systems to create a harmony where modernism and traditionalism can coexist. The final result is relaxed, inviting and elegant and makes for an exclusive experience well-worthy of a short stroll.
